DG Flugzeugbau increased its own Web-Server
At the beginning - 1997 - our web site www.dg-flugzeugbau.de was on a small company's server that was connected to the Internet by a 64 Kb line. This server had 31 other web sites on it and, in the end, nearly 70% of all the traffic on the line was ours!
As a result, we were politely told to take our business elsewhere.
Ten the web-site was located on a big machine near Karlsruhe, which was situated directly on a "backbone" of the Internet.
That means very quick answering time and rather cheap traffic costs for us.
.... and when I read this about 2 years later, I only can smile.
In the meantime - 2002 - the traffic "exploded" and now is about 23 GB per month. 23.000.000.000 Bytes - just incredible!
I really should not stop to smile
We were forced to increase or provider contract. The maximum traffic is 50 GB/Month now.
At May 12th or counter reached the number of 500.000 visitors.
And nobody should think that would be the end:
In No. 2003 we were forced to order another increasing of the service of our provider, because we had a traffic of 62 GB!
But now - with 100 GB - we have ordered his greatest package. What will come afterwards?
Well, after the 700.000th visitor had come beginning of March 2004, the traffic exploded up to more than 100 GB/month, due to downloads of big videoclips, which we had shown during our "Open Day" in Bruchsal. So I was forced to remove these videoclips from our site. Now the traffic is less then 100 GB. How long?
In Aug. 2006 the webspace moved to another provider. The traffic was about 200 GB/month now......
But the biggest step forward was done in autumn 2007. Now we have a machine of our own with highest performance and a storage of 10 GB, where we can publish everything what we have and what we like. And the traffic volume increased up to a maximum of 2,500 GB/month. Hard to believe that this will not be enough at any time in the future.
Of course this big step cost additional money . Our monthly cost are twice as high as before: 19,98 Euro instead of 9,92!
